Oral-Facial Exercises
Age Group: 3+
The activities can be used:
- by specialist speech therapists,
- by parents, under the guidance of a specialist speech therapist,
- by other specialist therapists.
The book includes 54 exercises, which are grouped according to the structure of the speech apparatus which is being targeted and the functional characteristics of the structure that is expected to be reinforced. The physical structures addressed are the TONGUE, the LIPS, the SOFT PALATE and the JAW.
The exercises are presented in the form of picture task cards and are accompanied by corresponding drawings. In addition, record forms are provided for all the exercises. Each record form lists the exercises targeting a specific structure, along with the functional characteristics which are to be enhanced, and enables the therapist to record the learner’s successful and unsuccessful attempts, as well as any further comments regarding the exercises performed.
Finally, the book provides information on the process of the Oral-Facial Examination and the ways in which the picture cards can be used in a therapy plan.
