Find the word

Age Group : 5+

The words chosen are simple and can be easily understood. Both older students with language difficulties and non-native learners will find it very useful. It is worthwhile noting that the pictures of the book make it suitable for younger children as well.

Instructions:

Laminate and cut the flashcards. Each player takes turns reading the definition in the flashcard. The others try to guess the word formatted in blue. The person who finds the word wins the flashcard. Whoever collects most cards wins the game. There are also other alternative ways of playing this game; the teacher, the parent, or the special therapist read the definition, and the children try to guess the word.
Finally, children can play the game all by themselves. In this case, they hide the word formatted in blue, read the description, and try to make a correct guess. Alternatively, they read the word and try to define it. Then they check the definition to see if they have answered correctly (self-correction process).

The flashcards are suitable for younger children too. Emphasis is now placed on the picture of the flashcard. Each player describes what they see, and the others try to guess the word.

I am Anastasia, a PhD candidate in child and adolescent mental health—play therapy—at the Department of Educational Sciences and Social Work of the University of Patras, as well as an author and play therapist. I studied at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the University of Patras and later earned an MSc in Language and Communication Impairment in Children from the University of Sheffield, as well as an MSc in Developmental and Adolescent Health Strategies from the Faculty of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

Seeking to further deepen my specialization, I completed a four-year training program in play therapy. I have worked both in educational settings as a teacher and special education pedagogue, and in private settings as a psychopedagogue and psychotherapist/play therapist, following an affirmative approach to neurodiversity and LGBTQI+ identities. I have also completed a program in addiction treatment and am currently participating in the Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society’s program “Introductory Lectures in Psychoanalysis.”

I live and work in Athens.

Είναι απίστευτο πως καμία φορά και εμείς οι μεγάλοι δυσκολευόμαστε να περιγράψουμε πράγματα ή έννοιες. Πολύ χτίσιμο εργαλείο το έκοψα το πλαστικοποιησα και έχουμε ένα υπέροχο επιτραπέζιο για οικιακή και επαγγελματική χρήση

Πολύ χρήσιμο υλικό τόσο για παιδιά τυπικής ανάπτυξης, όσο και για παιδιά με δυσκολίες. Μπορούν εύκολα να χρησιμοποιηθούν σε ηλεκτρονική μορφή αλλά και σε έντυπη εφόσον εκτυπωθούν. Συγχαρητήρια!

L’idée est pratique mais le recto verso moins j’ai un enfant autiste donc ça veut dire papier épais et pas de recto verso sinon le fait de voir au travers ou de pouvoir avoir une autre image à traiter peut poser soucis du coup la moitié du livre ne sert à rien pour moi. Mais sinon l’idée est pertinente : un jeu de devinette .
