Description

Dysphagia Toolbox

Age Group : 3 years and over

Dysphagia, a complex swallowing disorder, now comprises over 60% of a speech-language pathologist’s caseload, yet many clinicians report limited training in its treatment. This book addresses that gap by offering a practical and evidence-based roadmap for dysphagia therapy. From infants discharged from neonatal intensive care units to elderly residents in long-term care, the rising number of patients diagnosed with dysphagia reflects improvements in survival after trauma, disease, or intensive medical intervention.

This comprehensive guide empowers speech-language pathologists with the tools needed to deliver effective dysphagia therapy through evidence-based practices:

  • Integrates decades of clinical research with current neuroplasticity principles
  • Provides step-by-step guidance on assessment and treatment planning
  • Offers therapeutic exercises to improve muscle function and swallowing safety
  • Highlights the importance of:
    • Accurate exercise dosing
    • Sustained patient motivation
    • Meta-therapy techniques for stronger patient-clinician collaboration
  • Designed to support clinicians in delivering effective, individualized care

Whether you're a seasoned professional or new to dysphagia therapy, this book equips you with the tools, techniques, and clinical strategies to deliver personalized, results-driven care. By combining evidence-based practice with real-world insights, it helps clinicians problem-solve, motivate patients, and ultimately improve quality of life through functional, safer swallowing.
