First 100 Words | A Guide to Developing Speech and Language

The words are classified into 14 categories. The objective of the recommended activities is to help children to:

  • become familiar with speech sounds
  • store these sounds in their memory system
  • distinguish phonetic sounds
  • produce speech sounds

The second part of the book comprises a set of activities for phrase-level language development.

Steps for developing Language Skills

  • listening
  • imitation
  • automatization (with prompts)
  • spontaneous speech production (without prompts)

At this stage (age), you don’t assess children’s articulation skills (i.e. their ability to produce sounds correctly). Children must simply be able to handle words consistently and prove that they can understand their meaning.

I started working as a speech therapist in 2000. Thirteen years later, I wrote the first book. I wanted to share the knowledge and personal experience I have gained over the years. I have not stopped writing since then, and at the same time, I continue to practice my profession. One complements the other. The children show me the way, and I join them in easy and challenging paths.
