A Year of Mini-Moves

Age Group : 2+

Pediatricians, teachers and other early childhood specialists now recognize that early motor development is one of the most important factors in the physical, emotional, academic and overall success of the child. Each of these mini-moves addresses one or more sensory, perceptual and visual motor skills that are the foundation of all future physical, cognitive, and emotional development.

Use these whimsical mini-moves at the beginning of your day or therapy session, at transition times or as inspiration for a more elaborate movement experience. Adapt each move to suit the abilities of the children.

The objective of the e-book A Year of Mini-Moves for the In-Sync Child is to reinforce the brain-body connection, while giving the child a moving experience that will last a lifetime!

The combination of Carol’s specialized knowledge in sensory processing and Joye’s expertise in perceptual-motor and visual development led to the creation of The In-Sync Child.

Joye Newman, M.A.

Joye Newman earned her master’s degree in Education and Special Education, with a specialization in perceptual-motor development, from The George Washington University. By integrating studies in behavioral optometry, occupational therapy, and psychology into her academic work, she developed a unique approach to movement-based therapy.

Joye founded and directed Kids Moving Company (KMC). She worked with many children who had limited opportunities for movement—or who were actually discouraged from moving—both at home and at school. KMC provided these children with a space for movement, play, and thinking in a developmentally appropriate environment. After 30 years, Joye closed the studio to focus on individual assessments and parent consultation, helping children build greater self-confidence and develop stronger skills in everything they do.

Mini-Moves is the perfect addition to add to your toolbox of activities.
All children can benefit from everyday movement, and Mini-Moves is a perfect way to incorporate lifelong sensory-motor skills into daily fun activities. For families who need a little extra support along the way, Mini-Moves assists with visual aids and clear and concise activities to perform daily. I highly recommend Mini-Moves for children, parents, caregivers, and therapists. Teachers who practice active learning and understand the importance of pause and movement time in class will also benefit from the daily suggestions. Both authors are experts and wrote groundbreaking books regarding the impact the sensory-motor systems have on our overall development. Download your e-book, print out the weekly schedule, and enjoy moving!

What a wonderful resource for parents, especially as they head
into summer after a year of pared-down activity. I wish I'd had it
when my kids were young!

Mini Moves for Connection and Safety

These daily activities serve as a fun and gentle reminder to connect with our children and with ourselves. We all need to take time out to move. It's great for our brains and our bodies. By moving together, there's joy in connection along with feeling safe to move in appropriate and helpful ways. For added fun, you can add two days together and try out yesterday's move with today's move. Get the moves and get playing and smiling every day.

Mini-Moves is a terrific tool

Like all of Carol & Joye’s ideas this mini-moves one is truly ingenious. Parents today are visual learners too and this format of weekly schedules is great for learning and working with their children. Thank you Ladies for always staying current with your information and skill set in the area of child development.

Another Home Run

Once again the authors have created a useful and fun tool for parents, grandparents, medical practitioners, teachers and care takers. I can't wait to "play these games" with my toddler granddaughter. Great to be able to take advantage of the authors' professional talents.

Mini-moves deliver big benefits

Knowing the expertise of the authors, I’m not surprised that they came up with such an ingenious and fun way to help kids of all abilities benefit from regular, targeted movements. These exercises are adaptable to many settings, but as a librarian I can see them finding a place in both in-person and virtual story times.

Fun, easy & important!

These quick and simple little exercises are so much fun. What your kids may not realize as they do them is that they are learning to be aware of their bodies and how to effectively use them. Brilliant!
