Description

No More Meltdowns is a two-hour recorded course designed for psychologists, special educators, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and teachers. Internationally recognized clinical psychologist, author, and speaker Jed Baker, Ph.D., presents a comprehensive framework for understanding and managing intense emotions, with a focus on teaching self-regulation skills.

In the first part, Dr. Baker introduces a neuroaffirming framework that emphasizes acceptance, strengths-based support, and collaboration with students and clients. He presents key predictors of successful outcomes, including social-emotional intelligence, perseverance, motivation, and the effective use of social support.

In the main part of the course, he explores the seven most common trigger categories that lead to meltdowns — such as sensory overload, demanding tasks, social difficulties, and lack of structure — and proposes prevention plans that modify the environment and teach alternative skills. Through clinical examples and recorded role-plays, practical techniques are presented, including:

  • Use of visual supports (schedules, social stories, stop/go cards)
  • Teaching replacement skills (e.g., how to ask for help or a break)
  • Calming and self-regulation strategies in real time
  • Collaborative approaches (Collaborative & Proactive Solutions)

The course places particular emphasis on managing anxiety, frustration, and pathological demand avoidance, offering empowerment tools to help children approach challenging tasks in a positive way.

Grounded in research and clinical practice, No More Meltdowns equips professionals with a practical toolkit for reducing outbursts, preventing meltdowns, and building lasting self-regulation skills.
