Short Stories
AGE GROUP: 4+
The e-book Developing Social Skills through Short Stories contains amusing picture cards that can help learners to discuss and understand how they can deal effectively with a wide range of social situations. The game consists of 52 cards with social skills segmented into five different thematic sections:
- politeness
- co-operation
- adaptation
- problem-solving
- challenging behaviours
Each story is followed by four questions aimed at promoting better understanding of the social skill that is studied and stimulating discussion.
A typical feature of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), social skills deficits can undoubtedly have a negative impact on their behaviour in school and other social settings.
Recent studies have shown that the use of social stories as an intervention tool can positively influence the social engagement of children with ASD.
